Spotlight on Southeast Asian Art
Unique artworks by established contemporary female artists from Malaysia are now available in the Netherlands. Anneloes Leijssen, a PR strategist for the cultural and creative sector, residing in Malaysia, has been working in the Asian art scene for tha past 5 years. In her new online shop, she presents a range of artworks from Malaysia: “Art has a transformative power. By increasing the visibility of contemporary art from Southeast Asia, I aim to build a bridge between cultures, between the East and the West. Southeast Asia is one of the most culturally diverse regions in the world, offering an incredible wealth of talent and artworks.”
Introducing the artists:

Tiffany Choong, Kuala Lumpur
Tiffany's most recent solo exhibition, "I Am Not an Oriental Vase: Journeys of Diaspora and Discovery," revolves around her Chinese and Malaysian roots. "The symbolism of the Chinese vases means so much to my family and my ancestors - I see these works as a tribute to my ancestors. I like to express my roots in my works, Chinese and Malay, that's who I am," says Choong.
Dayang Salim, Kuala Lumpur
Dayang is known for her extraordinary embroidered mixed-media works. The artist lived in many places, in Asia and Europe, her works depicts various cultural stories from China, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson, Penang
She started her career as a textile designer and now she is an internationally established artist. Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson spent her childhood on plantations in Malaysia. After studying in England and America, she returned to Malaysia with her husband Owen she started Rebecca Owen Designs, she sold colorful resort wear everywhere in Malaysia, all designed by Rebecca herself. Later on in her career, when she sold the company, she started to fully focus on her art. Duckett has a profound love for flora, fauna, and cultural heritage.
